NeverYear Games Week 1

This week at NeverYear Games we spent a lot of time brainstorming and came up with a few ideas while scrapping some others. One of our ideas from a few months ago was "The Legend of Stuff", a game in which you played as Stuff, a child's teddy bear, to keep him or her safe from harm. As much as we liked this idea, there wasn't much room to expand with it, and so it was scrapped in favor of something currently titled "Everybody Loves Nuclear Armageddon". It has a retro-future art style and simple RTS gameplay with low-maintenance resource collection and management. With only two resources to worry about and the game taking place in a 2D space, even novice RTS players can learn the game quickly. The second idea we were toying around with before scrapping was making a spiritual successor to a game Alex has worked on before. We decided against this because it wouldn't leave much of a challenge for the designers, as most of the gameplay and mechanics would already be finished. This idea was dropped in favor of something that we thought of in an intense brainstorming session. In this currently nameless game, the player would control a one of eight wizards and traverse various mega-man style levels with simple gameplay and a boss fight at the end of each level. Within the week we should have one of these ideas eliminated and move on with production of whichever one makes the cut.
